نظمت منظمة المجموعة العراقية الكندية وبالتعاون مع Bike Windsor Essex ، رحلتين خلال شهر سبتمبر 2018 إلى جزيرة بيلي. شارك 12 مشاركًا في كل منهما ، كانوا تحت الإشراف المباشر لخبراء من Bike Windsor Essex. تم تزويد المشاركين بالدراجات والخوذات. كانت هذه رحلات ممتعة وغنية بالمعلومات التي تجعل كل شعور أكثر ثقة ركوب على الطريق. In cooperation with Bike Windsor Essex, the Iraqi-Canadian group organized two trips during September 2018 to the Pelee island. 12 participants involved in each, they were under the direct supervision of experts from Bike Windsor Essex. The participants were provided by bicycles and helmets. It was such a fun and informative trips that get all feeling more confident riding on the road.

تهنئ منظمة المجموعة العراقية الكندية نادي روتاري بويندزور على اتمامه 100 عام في خدمة المجتمع بمدينة ويندزور في 9 يوليو ، التقى أعضاء نادي روتاري في نادي كابوتو في ويندزور للإعلان عن بدء السنة الجديدة للنادي.وشمل ذلك أداء اليمين للرئيس الجديد للنادي ، السيد جول هوكينز. كما أدى المجلس التنفيذي المساعد له اليمين الدستورية أيضًا وكان الأستاذ غسان ساكا المدير العام لمنظمة المجموعة العراقية الكندية ضمن المجلس التنفيذي هذا. تحدث السيد هوكينز عن خططه لإيصال نادي الروتاري إلى القرن الثاني من خدمة للمجتمع. تحدث عن خطط للمساعدة في بناء الآبار في غانا إلى جانب الدعم المستمر لمنظمات أخرى في منطقة ويندزور والتي تعمل على مساعدة مدينة ويندزور والمجتمعات المحيطة بها. تتطلع المنظمة إلى العمل مع أعضاء نادي روتاري لمزيد من الترويج والمشاركة في المساعدات المحلية والخارجية. The ICGO would like to congratulate the Rotary Club of Windsor 1918 in completing 100 years of service to the community of Windsor-Essex. On July 9th the Rotary Club met at the Caboto Club in Windsor to announce the new year of the club. This involved the swearing in of the new president of the club, Mr, Jules Hawkins. Further the executive council that will be aiding Hawkins was also sworn in and included the ICGO Executive Director Khassan Saka. Hawkins then spoke on his plans to usher the Rotary Club into their second century of service to the community. He spoke on plans to help construct wells in Ghana along with continued support and celebration of other organizations in the Windsor region that help Windsor and the surrounding communities. The organization looks forward to working with the Rotary Club’s members to further promote and engage in helping those both local and abroad. #ICGO #RotaryClub

احتفلت كنيسة الخلاص يوم الأربعاء 27 يونيو بالذكرى السنوية الأولى لبرنامج الطهي الصحي. وصل الحاضرون في حوالي الساعة 11:00 صباحاً، وملؤوا الغرفة بجو إيجابي. ووجدوا مقاعدهم، واستقبلوا بعضهم بعضاً بسعادة، وتداولوا أطراف الحديث وبعض النكات في انتظار بدء الحدث. جلب العديد من الحاضرين انواعاً مختلفة من الأطعمة مثل الدجاج والأرز والأسماك للمشاركة في الغذاء الجماعي المخطط له بعد انتهاء الحدث الرئيسي. استضافت مديرة الخدمات المجتمعية والعائلية سوزان فالودون هذا الحدث بمساعدة المدير التنفيذي المساعد بول ريدوت والمديرة التنفيذية كيلي ريدوت. تم توزيع بعض الجوائز على افراد مختارون من قبل كنيسة الخلاص التقطت لهم بعض الصور . اما الآخرون فقد أتيحت لهم افرصة الحصول على بعض الجوائز في حال تمكنوا من الإجابة على أسئلة طرحت خلال الحدث. حضر مدير عام منظمة المجموعة العراقية الكندية هذا الحدث. وألقى خطاباً أمام حشد من حوالي 20 شخصاً، وأبقى الجو ايجابياً وعمل مترجماً للسيدة فالودون. وبمجرد الانتهاء من توزيع جميع الجوائز والتقاط الصور، دعت السيدة كيلي رايدوت المجموعة الى المشاركة في الصلاة قبل البدء بتوزيع الأغذية المقدمة. The Salvation Army held an event on Wednesday June 27 to celebrate the one year anniversary of their cooking/health and wellness program. Attendees arrived around 11:00 a.m and filled the room with a positive atmosphere. They found their seats, happily greeted each other and made conversation and jokes while waiting for the event to begin. Many attendees brought in various foods such as chicken, rice and fish to share for a planned potluck after the main event had ended. Community and Family Services Manager Susan Falodun hosted the event with the assistance of Assistant Executive Director Paul Rideout and Executive Director Kelly Rideout. Individuals recognized by The Salvation Army were awarded prizes, had their picture taken and were thanked while others had the chance to earn prizes if they could answer certain questions correctly. President of the ICGO, Khassan Saka, attended the event. Saka made a speech to the crowd of about 20 people, kept the atmosphere alive with jokes and acted as an arabic translator for Falodun. Once all the prizes, photos and thanks had finished, Executive Director Kelly Rideout led the group in prayer before digging in to the abundance of food provided. #ICGO #SalvationArmy

في 23 حزيران كانت منظمتنا على موعد مع حدث ثقافي هام. فئات عمرية مختلفة استقلت حافلة Badder للسفر إلى لندن / أونتاريو للتعرّف على معالم مدينة كندية اخرى قبل انطلاق الرحلة ، استمتع المشاركون بالفطائر الدافئة والقهوة التي وزعها غليهم المتطوعين. كما وزعت عليهم حقائب مجانية مقدمة من شركة Freedom Mobile الرحلة التي استغرقت ساعتين تقريبًا كانت حافلة بالضحك والغناء والموسيقى وتناول الوجبات الخفيفة من قبل المشاركين بمجرد وصول الحافلة إلى لندن كانت كاتدرائية القديس بطرس محطتها الأولى حيث تمتّع الحضور وتأملوا بفن الهندسة المعمارية للمبنى ، وكذلك الجداريات من الداخل. كان لديهم فرصة للصلاة واضاءة الشموع. بعد ساعة أو نحو ذلك في كاتدرائية القديس بطرس توجهت الرحلة إلى كنيسة القديس يوسف الكلدانية الكاثوليكية. هناك استمع رواد الرحلة إلى موعظة قصيرة من قبل الكاهن ، وتمتعوا بترتيل دينية باللغة العربية ، وبعدها توجهوا الى الطابق السفلي لتناول وجبة طعام حيث تم إعداد بوفيه كبير وتشاركوا مع ابناء الكنيسة في الطعام والغناء والرقص. وبانتهاء اللقاء في الكنيسة، عادت المجموعة إلى الحافلة واتخذوا من الحديقة محطة توقف أخيرة للاستمتاع بالرياح الباردة تحت الأشجار. رقصوا وغنوا على أنغام الموسيقى قبل ان ل يستقلوا الحافلة في آخر مرة إلى مدينة ويندزور. تود منظمتنا أن تشكر جميع المتطوعين الذين ساعدوا بنجاح هذه الفعالية كما تشكر كل من فريدوم موبايل و أسواق البلد و اسواق دجلة والفرات و أسواق اور و One Stop Shop The ICGO held a cultural excursion event on June 23rd. Individuals were able to get on a Badder bus to journey to London, Ontario to see what another Canadian city was like. Before the trip began the people who came to the ICGO to take part were given warm muffins and coffee from volunteers. They were also given a free goodie bag from Freedom Mobile that each got to keep. The bus trip to the city was filled with laughter, singing and music as the passengers on the bus broke out instruments and snacks to keep themselves occupied for the roughly two hour ride to London. Once the bus arrived in the new city its first stop was at St. Peter's Cathedral Basilica where the attendees were able to marvel at the artistry of the building’s architecture, murals and craftsmanship within. They had a chance to pray, wander the grounds and light devotional candles inside. After an hour or so at St. Peter’s the trip moved to St. Joseph Chaldean Catholic Church. There the trip goers listened to a short sermon by the priest, enjoyed devotional songs sung in Arabic and were then brought downstairs for a meal. A large buffet was prepared and waiting for the group as they united with the church’s community in food, song and dance. Once the event at the church had ended the group returned to the bus and made one last stop at a park to bask in the cool winds under the trees. Music was played, people danced and sung songs together before finally boarding the bus for the last time back to Windsor. The ICGO would like to thank all of the volunteers that helped out as well as Freedom Mobile, Baled Market, One Stop Shop, Dijla and Alforat Food Market and Ur City Supermarket

يوم الأربعاء المصادف 13/06/2018 كان للمشاركين في برنامج المسنين المنظم من قبل منظمة المجموعة العراقية الكندية فرصة رائعة للتعرف على قواعد السلامة من الحرائق نانسي كريست ، العاملة بقسم التعليم العام لدى مركز خدمات الإطفاء والانقاذ بويندزور كانت حاضرة لتوجيه الحاضرين حول الإجراءات المناسبة للسلامة من الحرائق. كيف نخمد حرائق الزيوت وكيف نختبرما إذا كانت الأبواب ساخنة وأكثرمن ذلك تم تدريسها وتوضيحها من خلال الاستعانة بعروض تقديمية ومقاطع فيديو توجيهية وكتيبات مطبوعة باللغتين الإنكليزية والعربية. تفاعل الحاضرون وكانوا متحمسين لطرح العديد من الأسئلة حول كيفية عمل خدمات الطوارئ في ويندزور، وكيفية تثبيت أجهزة كشف أول أكسيد الكربون وأجهزة إنذار الدخان بشكل صحيح، وكيف يمكنهم خدمة المجتمع. الجميع كانوا مسرورين بالملاعق الخشبية المجانية التي وزعت عليهم والمحفور على مقبضها قول سلامة الحرائق. بشكل عام ، كانت ندوة تعليمية ناجحة. ومنظمة المجموعة العراقية الكندية تود أن تشكر كل من السيدة كريست ومركز خدمات الطوارئ في ويندزورعلى دعمهم المستمر للمجتمع. كما تتقدم بالشكر لمؤسسة أونتاريو Trillium Foundation على مساندتها ودعمها المادي للمنظمة للاستمرار في تقديم برنامج كبار السن. The attendees of the senior day program on Wednesday June 13 at the ICGO got a chance to learn about fire safety. Nancy Christ, public education officer with Windsor Fire & Rescue Services, came by the organization to instruct the community members in attendance on proper fire safety protocols. How to successfully put out grease fires along with the methods to test if doors were hot and more was taught. Nancy Christ’s instructions were done through the use of powerpoint slides, videos, props and pamphlets published in both English and Arabic. Those in attendance were eager to ask questions about how emergency services operate in Windsor, how they benefit the community and even how to properly install both carbon monoxide detectors and smoke alarms. Everyone was pleased to find out they would also be going home with a free kitchen spatula with a fire safety saying etched into the handle courtesy of Windsor Fire & Rescue Services. Overall, the educational seminar was a success and the ICGO would like to thank Nancy Christ and Windsor Fire & Rescue Services for their continued support of the community. The ICGO would also like to thank the Ontario Trillium Foundation, through their grant the organization is able to continue to put on the senior day program.

منظمة المجموعة العراقية الكندية قامت بتوزيع مستلزمات الغسيل جنبا إلى جنب مع الخضروات الطازجة المقدمة من بنك الطعام. الابتسلمة علت وجوه الحاضرين بقيام كل من المدير العام للمنظمة الاستاذ غسان ساكا وعضو مجلس الإدارة سرمد ساكا بتوزيع مسحوق ومعطّرغسيل الملابس Tide على الاشخاص في الطابور تشكر منظمة المجموعة العراقية الكندية شركة Tide على رعايتها ومواصلتها العمل مع المنظمات المحلية لتوزيع مستلزمات الغسيل المجانية للمحتاجين. The ICGO partnered up with the Men United for God Food Bank to distribute laundry supplies alongside the fresh vegetables of the Food Bank. Smiles lit up as Tide laundry detergent pods and Downy Unstopable scent booster beads were distributed to each person in line. Executive Director Khassan Saka and Board Member Sarmad Saka worked together to hand out the laundry supplies. The ICGO thanks Tide for their sponsorship and will continue work with local organizations to distribute free laundry supplies to those in need. Photos by Kacie Cooper

The Iraqi Canadian Group Organization is always looking for ways to support the Iraqi and Middle Eastern community in Windsor, but they are also proud supporters of Windsor’s growth and prosperity. The ICGO will be working closely with Windsor City Councillor, Paul Borelli, to help the Holy Family Chaldean Catholic Church with their plans to restore and renovate the 130-year-old church as well as reaching out to the Windsor community. The parish hosts lots of events and activities which they want to share with the community outside of their church as well. They also plan to restore their grounds and parking lot so that it can be nice and available for public use. The ICGO has already made plans with Father Sarmad Biloues, the pastor for the local family church, to begin work on programs to help the church with it’s plans of outreach and inclusivity.
